Anti-Money Laundering Policy
Why do we need to verify players?
Moose Jaw Casino welcomes players only in regions where local laws permit online gambling, and we meet Canadian requirements for age verification, identity checks and anti-money laundering. Knowing our players well is central to meeting those requirements.
Verification prevents criminals from using our cashier to move or conceal funds. It is also a safeguard for you, since it makes it far harder for anyone to open an account under your name, use your card or take your winnings.
We verify every player before their first deposit is accepted. We may also come back for more information later, for example after a large win or a change in how an account is used.
When might I be asked to prove the source of my funds?
Sometimes we need to understand the money behind your play, not just who you are. This is called a source of funds check.
It usually happens when:
- deposits are large or very frequent compared with your usual pattern;
- your play changes suddenly in size or speed;
- a payment or withdrawal looks unusual for your account.
In these cases we may ask for documents such as bank statements, recent payslips or tax papers, or proof that funds came from savings, an inheritance or the sale of a property. We request only what is necessary and keep it confidential in line with our Personal Data Policy.
Deposits must come from payment methods held in your name. Payments from other people are not accepted.
What happens if verification is not completed?
Until the checks we ask for are finished, your account is restricted. That means no deposits, no withdrawals and no play.
Should a document be absent, hard to read, or inconsistent with the information on your account, we will explain what is required so you can put it right.
We close any account where documents prove to be forged or altered, or where we suspect a link to crime. Money connected to suspicious activity can be held for the time required by law, and relevant authorities may receive information from us.
Is my account checked again after I sign up?
Yes. Checks do not stop after the first one. Our systems and our team keep watching account activity on a continuing basis.
We look closely at signs such as:
- depositing and then withdrawing with little real play in between;
- switching between many payment methods within a brief period;
- splitting large amounts into several smaller deposits;
- activity that does not fit your account history.
Wherever your deposit method supports payouts, withdrawals are returned to it. Each Interac e-Transfer withdrawal is capped at C$9,500 per transaction, and bank transfer withdrawals are capped at C$40,000.
We never charge casino fees on deposits or withdrawals, so a fee is never a reason for an unusual payment route.
Do we screen for politically exposed persons and sanctions?
Yes. We screen every player when they sign up and again on a regular basis.
A politically exposed person, or PEP, is anyone who holds a major public post now or held one in the past, for example a judge, a military officer or a senior politician. Their relatives, business partners and other close associates get screened too.
You can still play if you are a politically exposed person. We will, however, run additional checks, which might involve asking about the source of your money and monitoring your account more closely.
Anyone appearing on Canadian or international sanctions lists cannot be accepted. When a match is confirmed, we block the account and take the steps the law requires.
Record keeping and reporting
Canadian law decides the retention period for ID documents, verification results and records of transactions. We store them for all of it, even once the account itself is shut.
Where required by law, suspicious transactions, plus certain large ones, are reported by us to the relevant Canadian authorities. We are legally barred from letting players know about any such report, so we may not be able to explain every action we take on an account.
Our staff receive training to recognize warning signs and escalate them, and we check our procedures regularly so they stay current.
What documents do I need, and how are my identity and age verified?
Our games are for adults only, so every player has to be at least 19. We'll accept your first deposit once we've checked your ID and confirmed your age along with your location.
In many cases we can verify you electronically using the information provided when you registered. Where that does not suffice, we will request documents like:
- Photo ID: a valid ID issued by the government, for example your passport, a provincial identity card or your driver's licence.
- Proof of address: a utility bill, a letter issued by a government office, or a bank statement with a recent date. Whichever you send must show your name and home address.
- Proof of payment: a photo of the card you pay with, its middle digits covered; a bank statement showing your name; or an e-wallet screenshot with your name visible.
- A selfie with your ID: in some cases, to confirm that the document belongs to you.
Please send clear, full colour images of unexpired documents showing all four corners. We process them as fast as possible and tell you once your verification is complete.
